Safeguarding isn’t just a policy — it’s a responsibility shared by everyone working in education. Here’s what teachers and support staff need to keep in mind before stepping into a new role.
At Hayer Education Recruitment, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. Every candidate we place plays a role in protecting the welfare of children and young people, and we take that duty seriously.
Before starting a role, all candidates are required to hold an enhanced DBS certificate, proof of identity, and evidence of safeguarding training. We also ensure schools have the necessary documentation and reference checks before engagement.
Beyond compliance, safeguarding is about awareness — recognising the signs of concern, following proper reporting procedures, and maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
We recommend revisiting your safeguarding training at least once a year, and keeping your certificates up to date. For further guidance, the Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) framework is an essential resource for all school staff.
